On LI Bai and Guang Chengzi
Graphical Abstract
Abstract
In the book Zhuangzi there is a story concerning Emperor Huang who asked Guang Chengzi about Taoism. This shows Zhuangzi's emphasis on effortlessness and the unique status as a teacher of an emperor and has exerted great influence on later literati. LI Bai inherited the predecessors' understanding of Guang Chengzi, and expressed his own political ambitions through description of Guang Chengzi: learning Guang Chengzi in order to assist emperors, neighboring him to symbolize his retreat from success, copying his examples in an attempt to become immortal. These were the reflection of his world view and decided by his thoughts and time.
