Back to Han and Tang Dynasties: A Study of Vein of ZHANG Da-qian's Paintings

  • ZHANG Da-qian has been famous for his paintings, and his calligraphy also has its great reputation. According to its styles, his calligraphic works had undergone three phases: early, middle and mature. Through multi-level coping, he proposed his historical views toward calligraphy. Thus after the smoothly style of various calligraphers of Ming and Qing Dynasties, he gradually stepped on his road to the pursuit of antique flavor. His calligraphy followed a way of gradual perfection, from the mastery of appearance to the profound internal spirit. Behind the elegant strokes was his positive attitude to pursue and copy antique flavor.
