On the Lack of Personality Education and Its Reconstruction at Universities in Period of Social Transformation: Reflections of the Postgraduate’s Poisoning Case at Fudan University
Graphical Abstract
Abstract
The postgraduate poisoning case at Fudan University has led to the public questioning on the nature of higher education. Essentially, such nature lies in the personality education. The frequent happening of such cases is due to the lack of such education in the period of social transformation. The marketization and industrialization of educational concepts, pragmatic and quick values in education, lack of education in humanistic spirit and concern, all these are the manifestation of lack of personality. Therefore, the higher education should give up utilitarianism and come back to its nature, carry out the personality education with “perfection” as its goal. In addition, it should take liberal education which is to regain the humanistic spirit, establish a perfect mechanism for the healthy psychological education and counseling. Further, teachers should cultivate themselves, make themselves as the models for the students, and hence become the qualified ones in the personality education.
