ZHANG Da qian and Dunhuang Frescoes

ZHANG Da qian played an important part in the combination of Dunhuang frescoes with Chinese paintings. ZHANG once generalized ten unique features of Dunhuang frescoes. And he, himself too, benefited greatly from them and created great works. Compared with the most of the current scholars who only take the frescoes in museums as the objects of study, ZHANG took them as the continuation of the past and put them in his future creative practice, which successfully became the objects for reference and showed the value and significance of these frescoes.
