The Application of Pygmalion Effect in the Teaching of Aerobics

  • By means of literature review, questionnaire survey, experiment and mathematical statistics, two classes of Grade 2011 taking the optional course of aerobics in the college of sports science, Fuqing branch of Fujian Normal University were chosen as the subjects of our experiment (one class as the experimental group, the other as the control group). Apart from the routine teaching required by the teaching syllabus, different teaching approaches were applied to the two groups of students with adequate teacher expectation added to the experimental group. The results show that the application of Pygmalion effect on the experimental group has remarkable effect. The experimental group gave a much better performance than the control group in the post-experiment test: the average score of the experimental group saw an increase of 5.92%, a lot higher than the 2.01% of the control group, indicating that Pygmalion effect plays a positive role in building a nice learning atmosphere, strengthening students' learning confidence, stimulating their potentials, and can contribute to enhancing the teaching results of aerobics.
