On the Relationship of Content, Perceived Social Support and Subjective Well-being in University Students

  • In order to investigate the relationship between content, perceived social support and subjective well-being, a self-made Scale of Content, Perceived Social Support Scale, and Subjective Well-being Scale were employed to test 287 university students from Chongqing University, Academy of Chongqing Police Officers, Chongqing University of Communications and Chongqing Educational Institute. The test finds that the students having positive support from their heterosexual intimate friends get higher marks in Subjective Well-being Scale test than their peers having no positive support (20.59±3.97) vs. (P<0.001); The prediction rate of Content reaches up to 40.5% upon the subject well-being of a student; meantime the perceived social support’s direct effect on subject well-being remains significant(β=0.285, P<0.001), indicating that the positive support from heterosexual intimate friends can promote student’s Subject Well-being; the Content can serve as a nice indicator of the subject well-being and can partly play the mediator role between perceived social support and subject well-being.
