On Chinese Characters with Radical Part “Shu ())” in Interpretation of Words

“Shu ()” is one of the 540 radical parts of Chinese characters listed in Interpretation of Words, which constitutes two characters. And there exist some problems in XU Shen’s interpretation. This article gives a full examination of its possibility as a radical part, evolution of words with “Shu ()”, and the reason why XU took it as a radical part. Further, it analyses the constitution and ascription of words with “zhen()” and “fu(鳧)” which XU took with “Shu ()”.
