On the Subjective Well-being of Different Student Groups in Colleges and Universities

  • Objective: To get acquainted with the differences of and the influential factors affecting college students’ subjective well-being(SWB). Method: By use of China Multidimensional Life Satisfaction Scale for adolescents (CMSLSS) and Affect Scale(AS),497 students ranging from freshmen to seniors of 4 universities(Sichuan Normal University, Chengdu College of Information Engineering, Neijiang Normal University and Chongqing College of Architectural Engineering) were questionaired and 453 of them were valid. Results: The Chinese college students’SWB is at the upper middle level on the whole. Little difference is observed in their SWB among different student groups except for the two dimensions of friendship and the learning environment satisfaction which differ quite drastically in particular. Gender, grade, major exert no influence upon the SWB while the academic performance plays a significant role in students’SWB; this is also true of the professions of student’s parents, yet family income has very little effect upon students’SWB.
