Preliminary Study on the Accumulation of Cadmium and Plumbum inEisenia foetida

  • Cd2 + solution and Pb2 + solution with different ion concentrations of 25 mg/L, 50 mg/L, 100 mg/L, 200 mg/L, 400 mg/L and their mixture were applied to an acute toxicology experiment of earthworms. After treating the Eisenia foetida for 2d, 4d, 6d, 8d, 10d and 12d and by aid of the atomic absorption spectrophotometer, the lead, cadmium enrichment content in earthworms are tested and determined. The results show that within the scope of the experimental dose, the Cd2 +, Pb2 + concentration increase as the time subjected to the toxicology experiment gets longer which indicates a clear dose-effect relationship. When lead and cadmium stress of different concentrations are applied, the enrichment content and velocity will differ drastically. The lead enrichment content is far greater than the cadmium enrichment content in the earthworm. This indicates that the earthworm can serve as an ideal indicator in monitoring heavy metal pollution and be used to relieve heavy metal pollution.
