  • The dispute between ancient and modern writing styles rising in Qi and Liang Dynasties made scholars gradually compromised to their evolution. This might inevitably exert influence on the social cultural atmosphere at the time. The thriving of any calligraphic styles cannot be separated from their social and cultural backgrounds. Therefore, WANG Xi-zhi’s symmetry between thickness and thinness, hence the neutralized beauty, was closely related with the social and cultural tide of Qi and Liang Dynasties.
