An Analysis on the Formation of the Daqian Style of Calligraphy

  • ZHANG Da -qian highly valued calligraphy and he promoted his painting with his calligraphy and vice versa. On the basis of inheritance of traditional calligraphy, he pursued innovation and focused on the absorption of the rubbings from stone inscription and some well-known scholars’ writings. And on this basis, he merged his bold and unconstrained, flexible but modest features in his calligraphy, which finally led to his own Daqian Style which has been considered as the important contribution to Chinese Calligraphic field.
