A Probe into the Food Supply to the Hala-helin Settlers by Wuzong Haishan of Yuan Dynasty
Abstract
From the end of 13th century and the beginning of the 14th century, some central Asian Mongolian forces like Haidu and Duwa had invaded northern desert. After Haidu’s death, the relationship between these Mongolian forces and Yuan Dynasty were improved. Henceforth, the frontier defense in northern desert had faced a new problem which had to be solved by the government, that is, how to guarantee the food supply to the large amount of settlers. Through the food transportation and cultivation of wasteland, the government gave such problem an effective solution, which contributed to the agricultural development in Helin religion.
