Cultural Reflections on the Structure of Niehai Hua
Abstract
As one of the four accusing novels in late Qing Dynasty, Niehai Hua does not focus on exposing social corruptions and condemning them. Instead, it is a cultural reflection of them. Its author employs parallel and contrastive plot on purpose. Through the comparison and contrast between heroes and heroines, among male colonies and female colonies, he denounces various cultural communities. However, the author favors the persons who are from abroad. This shows the author’s reflections on the evil nature of the people during the period of social transition.
