Identification and Correction of Misinterpretations of Chinese Stone Inscriptions in Jin Dynasty

    • The Compilation and Collation of Stone Inscriptions in Jin Dynasty provides authentic and reliable documentary materials for the study of epitaphs of Jin Dynasty. However, there are certain textual misinterpretations in annotations of the book. These misinterpretations are mainly due to factors such as confusion between similar characters, unfamiliarity with variant characters, and difficulties in identification because of damaged text. Based on rubbings published, this study has analyzed the causes of errors by considering the structures of Chinese characters and inter-character relationships. It has examined and distinguished forms of these characters, and corrected a total of 32 misinterpretations in an attempt to provide more accurate and reliable textual materials for related research.
