Relationship of the use of social networking site and college students’cognitive failure: the sequential mediating role of fear of missing out and mobile phone dependence

  • In order to explore the influence mechanism of social networking sites use on college students’ cognitive failure, 574 college students were tested with the social networking site use scale, fear of missing out scale, mobile phone addiction tendency scale and cognitive failure scale. This study found that, College students’ social networking site use intensity, fear of missing out, mobile phone dependence, and cognitive failure were significantly and positively correlated. Social networking site use can significantly predict the level of college students’ cognitive failure. Fear of missing out and Mobile phone dependence have significant separate meditating role effects between social networking site use and college students’ cognitive failure, and can also form a significant sequential mediating effect. The fear of missing out and mobile phone dependence played a sequential mediating role between social networking sites use and college students’ cognitive failure.
