The Mutual Inclusion and Reference ofFuand Local Chronicles in Qing Dynasty:A Focus on Local Chronicles of Bashu

The cultural achievements in the Bashu region (referring to current Sichuan Province and the city of Chongqing in southwest China) during the Qing Dynasty were remarkable, especially in the field of fupoetry. However, The Complete Fu Poetry in the Qing Dynastywas not compiled, and many pieces of fuare scattered in local chronicles, examination paper written in red especially for the examiner in imperial examinations before 1912, and personal collections. Therefore, starting with rhyme-proses recorded in the local chronicles of Bashu in the Qing Dynasty, this study explores the characteristics of regional literature in terms of geography, literary style, and literary development. By adopting local chronicles in fupoetry, which is proposed by CHEN Guangyi, as a benchmark, this study provides a comparative analysis of the literary styles of fuand local chronicles. It also examines the relationship between fupoetry and books of subject references and historical records. Therefore, it is beneficial for the recording facts in fuand writing related to local culture and nature in Bashu. More importantly, this research contributes to the study of the mutual inclusion between creation of fuand the compilation and revision of local chronicles when the policy of education and culture was introduced by the Qing government. As per the policy, a large number of books were compiled and the Chinese language was standardized.
