SONG Zhengyu's Mentality of Composition during the Transition from Ming to Qing Dynasties

  • SONG Zhengyu is a representative poet of Yun Jian(Between Clouds) School. His words describe the sadness of the troubled times with sisterly affection, showing a strong mood of the times and personal mentality before and after he became an official of Qing Dynasty. The social upheaval in the Ming and Qing Dynasties led to a major change in SONG's personal destiny, and so is his mentality of composition. His words reflect different mentality in different periods due to subjective and objective factors. His works in the late Ming Dynasty are full of dissatisfaction with the corrupt rule of the Ming Dynasty and the sense of frustration, full of eschatological mentality. Since Qing Dynasty commenced, his words had reflected his speculative mentality of being keen on fame and quickly changing his positions, but also often revealed his memories of friendship and love, presenting the complicated mentality of the turncoat group during the transition from Ming to Qing Dynasties.
