Investigation and Evaluation of the Effectiveness of Labor Education Based on University Students' Satisfaction: A Sample of 990 University Students in Sichuan Province

  • Labor education is one of the content for the comprehensive development of students' morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics, and labor skills. Its importance is evident. When it is implemented, it often falls into formalism and lacks effectiveness. Therefore, based on the model for the effectiveness of labor education, this study has conducted a questionnaire survey with a sample of 990 university students from Sichuan Province, and evaluated the performance of them in seven dimensions, namely, content, approach, guidance, guarantee, perceived value, student satisfaction, and behavioral intention. The empirical analysis has found that there were no significant differences among students with different family backgrounds (whether they are only child), majors they are studying, and their political affiliations in the seven dimensions. However, there were significant differences between male and female students in the content, approach, and behavioral intention dimensions. There were significant differences in all seven dimensions between those who were student cadres and those who were not, and between those in different types of schools in university. Additionally, there were significant differences in the content and students' satisfaction dimensions among students in different academic years, and in the guidance and satisfaction dimensions among students from different hometowns. In the comparison of the average scores of each variable, the score for the content dimension was the highest, while that for the guidance dimension was the lowest. This indicates that the research sample has a basic understanding of labor education, it lacks national policy support in universities and still has a certain deficiency in guidance, mechanism, and supervision and management. In addition, there are regional differences and individual differences in labor education in universities. Therefore, the related policy recommendations need to be made at three levels:national, university, and individual.
