The "fan" was a usual utensil in ancient China. And it is the ornament that has appeared most frequently in
Notes and Comments on The Golden Lotus. It has many types, functions and rich connotation. It has not only manifested ornamental culture and social fashion in late Ming Dynasty, but borne certain literary functions, and acted on figure shaping, plot organization and scene presentation. Accordingly, it has become an important part of the novel's artistic fabrication.
