Literature Review and Evaluation of Mathematical Literacy
Abstract
A review is made to the mathematical literacy with regard to its definition, constituent elements, characteristics, training strategy and evaluation.Mathematical literacy means a good‘understanding’of math, ‘being good at’math, ‘perceiving’math, and‘creating’math.The‘understanding of math’is to understand math, the‘being good at’is to be‘good at five things’ (like thinking, reasoning, operating, applying, and exchanging) , ‘perceiving’is to comprehend the idea and spirit of math, ‘creating’is to create new knowledge and experience of math.Mathematical literacy is constituted by branches literacy of understanding math, using math, learning math and discovering (or recreation) .The training strategies are strengthening the cognition and understanding of the mathematical knowledge, paying attention to training ‘math application’ability, guiding learning methods effectively, and simulating the activities of process of discovering (or recreation) , problem solving, mathematical inquiry, mathematical modelling, to cultivate the innovative consciousness of mathematics.
