On Patriarchy Discourse in TV Programs ——— A Case Study of Gender Ratio of TV Hosts and Films and TV Plays

  • As a kind of culture, the TV’s ideology makes TV become a legal carrier of social meaning. In patriarchy
system, the patriarchy discourse, of course, has become a part of the TV’s social meaning. After naturalization and routiniza- tion, it is highly disguised. Though the patriarchy does not exist in people’s horizon nakedly, we can catch some traces of such patriarchy hiding behind the TV culture through analysis of TV entertainment programs and films and TV plays. Specifically, the men’s superiority to women in the setting of content, plot, roles, themes and strategies of films and TV plays, and unbal- ance of gender ratio of TV hosts, honored guests and raters, both are the external expression of patriarchy in TV culture.
