On Relations between ZHANG Daqian’s Artistic Features and the Folk Painting

ZHANG Daqian was a worldwide known artist whose works were deeply influenced by folk paintings. They
suited both refined and popular taste and were deeply enjoyed. One of the main reasons for the success of his paintings lies in his study of the folk drawing and reference from it, especially absorption of its creativity. He changed the literati paintings which were often too high to be popular into the artistic forms which were full of secular flavor and loved by ordinary citizens. Through absorption and fusion of the strengths of the folk drawing, he innovated the Chinese painting. He not only enriched the connotation and form of our art, but found the new direction for us.
