On Ironic Flavor of Knights’ Elegant Love and Their Critique of the Times
Graphical Abstract
Abstract
The elegant love was the important topic of knight literature as well as the human landscape of Middle Ages in
Europe. In such love, knights showed their tendency of anti-Christianity which was inconsistent to the people’s daily belief. However, such contradiction was born unexpectedly and connoted in love itself. The excellent ironic flavor of the elegant love not only verified the knights’ deep belief in Christianity, but criticized the Middle Ages relentlessly. And it has fully expressed the culture’s concern of the reality and its critique value.
