On Measurement of the Urban-Rural Integration Level in Sichuan Province

Based on the connotation of urban-rural integration, 14 indicators such as per capita GDP, per capita fiscal revenue and natural population growth rate were selected to construct a system for urban-rural integration appraisal, and the com- prehensive analysiswas then made to check the integration level of urban-rural development in various cities in Sichuan Province
by method of principal component analysis. It is found that: (1) The level of urban-rural integration in various cities in Sichuan Province falls into four categories: highest, high, medium and low, of which Chengdu and Panzhihua are among the highest; further analysis reveals that in terms of the urban-rural integration degree the spatial difference of Sichuan is relatively huge, cities in the Chengdu Plain in general enjoy a high level of integration, and the south Sichuan region is high while in northeast and west Sichuan the integration degree is relatively low with Panzhihua alone enjoying a high level in west Sichuan. In view of the findings, policies are suggested for the overall urban-rural development of Sichuan accordingly.
