A Brief Review of Studies of Tuge History since the20th Century

Wei and Jin Dynasties were a period of national fusion in a large scale in Chinese history. The Tuge nationality was active in the society due to the foundation of Xiongnu Khanate. Since the20th century, the academic circle has made resear- ches into Tuge’s nationality origin, surnames, distribution areas, relations with Xiongnu and ethnic policies of Tuge Khanate. In terms of its origin, there still exists disagreement. It was mainly in Bingzhou. And the focus of relations with Xiongnu lies in the dispute whether it belonged to South Xiongnu. As for its ethnic policies, people place particular emphasis on the contro- versy whether“Hu” in“Hu-han Partition” includes Tuge. In spite of that, these studies have some inadequacies. The sinicized
standards of Tuge are not very explicit and the scholars who have made systematic study of Tuge are small in amount.
