On the Contrast Preference of XIE Lingyun’s Poems

  • XIE Lingyun was the beginner of the landscape poems of ancient China and has been valued. However, people’s comments on his poems have been controversial. Some think that his poems are natural and lovely, while others hold that they are full of repetition and redundancy. Nevertheless, such poetic feature is universal in his poems. And interwoven practice between the contradictory styles has brought about a kind of aesthetic effect similar to contrast which is shown not only inside the his poems but in the contradictory feelings between the poet and his poems.
