Abstract
Through the short and tragic marriage of the nobody JIANG Zhushan, the novel Chin Ping Mei has factually reflected the chaotic phenomena and evil during the transitional period of late Ming Dynasty: profiteers’ domination over mar- kets, lawless hooligans, social endless material desires, absence of humanistic spirits, national judicial corruption, and popu- larization of money worship. And JIANG’s tragedy was a typical social one. For the highly development of commodity econo- my, the novel’s historical inspiration is heavy and precious.
