Effect of Parental Rearing Styles on College Students’ Contingencies of Self-Worth on Family Support
Abstract
To investigate the effect of parental rearing styles on college students’ contingencies of self-worth on family support, 363 college students were measured by Contingencies of Self-worth Scale and Parental Bonding Instrument. The re- sults showed that(1) family support was positively correlated with mother care, as well as father care, while was negatively correlated with father control;(2) Contingencies of self-worth on family support could be positively predicted by father care; (3) In only-child group contingencies of self-worth on family support could be positively predicted by father care. In conclu- sion, father care is crucial to people’s contingencies of self-worth on family support, especially for those only-child children.
