The Dynamic Analysis of the Population Carrying Capacity of Water Resources in Inner Mongolia

  • In order to evaluate the influence of population pressure on water resources and environment, the Water Ecological Footprint model is applied to the analysis of the population Supporting Capacity, and the Population Supporting Capacity of Water Resources in autonomous leagues and cities in Inner Mongolia Region from2008 to2013 is calculated. The results showed that: (1)During2008 ~ 2013, except the Hulunbeir city and Xing’an league, the actual population of other unions and cities in Inner Mongolia have all surpassed the upper range of the Population Supporting Capacity of Water Resources, that is to say, their population is overloaded. (2)The Population Supporting Capacity of Water Resources is positively related to the Car-
rying Capacity of Water Resources, in the same way the Population Pressure Index of Water Resources and the Ecological Footprint per capita Water Resources are positively related. It is concluded that the Population Pressure Index of Water Re- sources in these cities is rising in the past years, which indicates that the pressure of population upon the water resources envi- ronment is incessantly increasing.
