Dermatoglyphics Analysis of the Hands of734 Han College Students in Sichuan

  • To study dermatoglyphics characteristics of the Han students in Sichuan, the handprints of 734 Han students from Neijiang Normal University have been collected with the printing ink method and their fingerprints, palm prints and the atd angle are analyzed respectively. The results showed that of the fingerprints, the dominant shapes are Whorl and Loop-shaped(the two together reaches up to 96.1%), and Arch is 3.9%. Of the male students' fingerprints, Whorl accounts for 46.7%, Loop 49.4%, Arch 3.9%. Of the female fingerprints, Whorl is 43.2%, Loop 52.8%, Arch 4.0%. Male fingerprint type is different from that of female students, yet with no statistical significance. Male students with an atd Angle greater than 45 degrees in their left hand account for only 4.6%, and 95.4% of them have an atd angle less than 45 degree, and no difference is found in their right hands. In contrast, female students with an atd Angle greater than 45 degrees in their left hands is 3.1%, 96.9% of them have a left hand with the atd angle less than 45 degrees; with regard the right hand, only 2.7% of the female students have an atd angle greater than 45 degrees, those with an atd angle less than 45 degrees account for 97.3%. Therefore, there is statistical significance in terms of the atd Angle between genders. Conclusion: Han college students in Sichuan are of unique features in their dermatoglyphics.
