On Views toward Poetry History of General Catalog of the CompleteLibrary in the Four Branches of Literature
Abstract
On the one hand, General Catalog of the Complete Library in the Four Branches of Literature advocates the caution in proving poetry with history. And on the other hand, it calls for the proving history with poetry. It stresses the concepts of truth and loyalty to emperors and patriotism in the traditional views of history and poems. However, it neglects their satire function and attempts to restrain their attributes in commenting emperors and political policies. This is in line with the soft and profound literary views of the catalog and shows the aesthetics of emperor and ministers it intends to maintain.
