A Study of the Last 40 Chapters of A Dream of Red Mansions from aPerspective of Xifeng's Emotional Disease

  • Some scholars have pointed out that Xi-feng's death of disease in the last 40 chapters of A Dream of Red Mansions is not in accordance with Cao Xue-qin's original intention. And other people hold that the author of the last 40 chapters is not the same as the one of the first 80 chapters from the description of traditional Chinese medicine. However, after the sorting out the description of Xi-feng's emotional disease in the first 80 chapters and the last 40 ones according to the traditional Chinese medicine theory that emotion may cause disease, we can make an interpretation and think that either from her course of disease, or the plot development, or her personal character, the last 40 chapters are roughly in accordance with the first 80 chapters.
