The Influence of Gratitude and Cognitive Emotion Regulation onCollegeStudents Dormitory Interpersonal Relationship

  • Through questionnaires and structural equation model analysis, the study collected a sample of 472 college students to explore the influence of gratitude and cognitive emotion regulation on dormitory interpersonal relationship. The results showed that:(1)In general, college students' dormitory interpersonal relationship is rather satisfactory; there are 8.7% students with serious distress in this regard and boys are found to have significantly higher distress than girls;(2)Dormitory- interpersonal-relationship distress is positively correlated with the negative cognitive emotion regulation, and negatively correlated with gratitude and positive cognitive emotion regulation; gratitude is positively correlated with dormitory interpersonal relationship satisfaction and positive cognitive emotion regulation, and is negatively correlated with negative cognitive emotion regulation;(3)Gratitude directly predicts dormitory-interpersonal-relationship distress and satisfaction; positive cognitive emotion regulation is found to play a significant role of mediation in between the three;(4)dormitory-interpersonal-relationship distress significantly mediates the relationship of gratitude and satisfaction. Therefore, cultivating students' gratitude and encouraging them to use positive cognitive emotion regulation can effectively reduce their dormitory interpersonal relationship distress and heighten satisfaction.
