A Research into the Original Events Recorded inGantang of The Book of Songs

  • Concerning the original events of Gantang of The Book of Songs, there have been theories of case-hearing, report to kings and accidental rest. Through study, we find that the case-hearing theory was made on the basis of events recorded in Xinglu, and it lacks evidence. The theory of report to kings is not in line with the Uncle Zhao's events and the poetic texts of the book. What is stated in the book is the event that Zhaogong Shi accidentally had a rest under a Gantang tree which had not been the fief tree and would never become the fief one because of Zhaogong.
