By use of documentary materials and surveys, a brief description is given to the historical background concerning the launching of college sports clubs, basing on which an analysis is given to this sports club teaching mode concerning its goals and content with priority given to the analysis of the realistic values for the implementation of such a teaching mode: the feature club is an embodiment for the locality-university cooperation, which is in tune with the educational ideology of encouraging the university to serve the local economic and social development; the club-based sports teaching lays greater emphasis students' autonomy, which can stimulate greater individual demands for sports activities; sports teaching clubs are very helpful for the balanced development and the combination of public sports teaching and sports training; the in-and-out-of-classroom integration of sports teaching is made possible via sports teaching clubs, creating a diversified campus sports atmosphere and is believed to be a must in the pursuit of feature development and the deepening of sports teaching reform.
