Formation of Artistic Style of ZHANG Da-qian's “Shanghai School” of Flower-and-bird Painting and Exploration of Its Features
Abstract
As the first man for over five hundred years in the modern Chinese painting, the master ZHANG Da-qian began to study painting in his childhood. He once made his study from his mother, his brother, other masters, some ancient painters and nature. In this period, he gradually got associated with some masters of “Shanghai School” and was involved in the painting of it, which contributed to the final formation of his style of flower-bird painting. His works, especially flower-bird ones, have been classified into “Shanghai School” by the circle of Modern Chinese painting. And he has been considered unanimously as the most representative painter of the School.
