On the Increasing Gap between the Wealthy and the Poor: An Analysisof Inequality of Wealth Possession
Graphical Abstract
Abstract
Wealth refers to both tangible and intangible goods that has value for use and exchange and can be utilized by humans. It includes those goods either created by labor or from nature. At present, the wealth possession in China is quite unequal among citizens, between rural and urban areas and regions. The gap between the rich and the poor caused by property income from such inequality of wealth possession is far bigger than that produced by salary income. To keep the gap from expanding, our country should pay more attention to justice and fairness of wealth allocation. Accordingly, our government should strengthen the effort to fight against corruption in order to prevent the national property from loss and hence improve the use of resource development and compensation, perfect the imposition of property and inheritance taxes, and enhance the shift of finance to rural and backward areas.
