Preliminary Inquiry of Impact of Different Sibling Relation upon a Girl's Psychological Development

Through the probe into the impacts of the four kinds of family ties having on girls` personality characteristics, interpersonal relationship and sense of security, along with their interrelations, this survey is aimed at finding some directive functions on girls` education, and apart from that, helps girls gain a better understanding of themselves and thus to realize a good personal development. Meanwhile, it is also expected to shed some light on psychology clinical work. A sampling of 117 girls was made at random, using the combination questionnaire for girls' psychological development,made up by a combined use of the Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale, Interpersonal Trust Scale, 16PF, PEI, SQ and other scales, to research the impacts of different sibling relationships in five aspects upon girls' psychological development. Results show that:(1)On the basis of related analysis, in sisters relationships, there is a notable negative correlation in trust level between the elder and younger sister; in sisters relationships, there is a notable positive correlation in the level of self-esteem and interpersonal sense of security between the two sisters; in the relationship of the elder sister and her younger brother, independence of both the elder sister and her younger brother are of a notable positive correlation; in the relationship of an elder brother and his younger sister, the two determinants are obviously positively correlated in terms of the two factors concerning the sense of security.(2)the variation analysis of the five psychological factors on five girls groups indicates that in sisters relationships, there are significant differences between the elder sister groups and younger sister groups in terms of the three psychological characteristics of the self-esteem, the trust level towards others and the interpersonal sense of security; there are significant differences in the level of self-esteem between the elder sister groups in the sisters relationships and younger sister groups in the relationships of the elder brother with a younger sister; there are also significant differences in the level of self-esteem for sister groups in sister relationships and the only daughter groups; there are significant differences in the level of self-esteem among the younger sister groups in sisters relationships and the elder sister groups in the relationships of an elder sister with a younger brother.(3)In the five psychological characteristics, most of the sibling relationship features don't exert an obvious impact on girls.
