A Brief Study of Predestined Friendship between ZHANG Da-qian and FAN Zhen-xu in Dunhuang

The Dunhuang frescoes are the great attraction to artists of calligraphy and painting. In 1941, ZHANG Da-qian left for Dunhuang from Wuwei together with the famous calligrapher and painter of Gansu Mr. FAN Zhen-xu who was already seventy years olds. This led to their friendship of different ages because of Dunhuang. ZHANG painted and printed for FAN, and FAN composed shot comments for ZHANG, which showed the deep friendship between the two artists.
