On Different Expressions concerning “Party” in Mainland China and Hong Kong in New Period

  • The linguistic contact will inevitably bring about the language changes. The English word “party” can refer to the small social gathering for entertainment. It was first translated into Shanghai dialect as “paidui”, and afterwards it spread to other places of mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. In recent years, many other versions have appeared in mainland and Hong Kong and Taiwan areas like “P”, “padi”, “pati”, and “pa”.
