On Historical and Current of Situation Redology

Under the social background of criticizing YU Ping-bo in 1954, the classic literary heritage cried for their new recognition and evaluation. The background needed to give A Dream of Red Mansions new evaluations, which was the request of politics. But how to evaluate the work was the academic. The publication of WANG Guo-wei's Comments on A Dream of Red Mansions in 1904 has started the new period of theoretical probe and artistic research of the classic work. HU Shi constructed the system of redology with autobiography as the core, views toward CAO Yin's family story and GAO E as the person who had finished the last 40 chapters of the work. This has led people to a dead end and made the researches on the work deviated. It is necessary to criticize HU Shi's views. If the reflection is needed, it does not lie in replacement of academic by politics, but lies in the innate inadequacy of the academic. The falsification against New comment on A Tale of the Stone since 1994 has just brought the criticism against HU to the pure academic road, and has been in accordance with YU's self innovation and development.
