The Interaction Effect Between Cognitive Reappraisal and Expressive Suppression on the Elderly's Daily Affection

  • By adopting Emotion Regulation Questionnaire, Positive Affection and Negative Affection Scale(PNANS), a door-to-door survey is conducted to investigate 378 people above the age of 60 about the interaction effect between cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression on their Daily Affection. The results show that: the elderly are more likely to use cognitive reappraisal to regulate emotion, and they tend to have more positive affection experiences than the negative ones; there exist significant differences on cognitive reappraisal, expressive suppression and positive affection between urban and rural elderly people, with no significant difference observed in term of the negative affection; the stratified regression analysis finds that education and health are two important demographic variables that affect senior people's positive emotional experience; while source place and income are two important demographic variables to affect their negative emotional experience; and the interaction between cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression is of statistical significance, but no significance is found in term of the negative affection.
