The Relation between Entering Tones and Falling One in Neijiang Dialect in the Late Ming Dynasty: An Examination of Rhyming in Poetry by ZHAO Zhenji and Zhangxue

  • 摘要:入声归去是内江方言乃至仁富小片的核心特征之一,而明末内江籍文人赵贞吉、丈雪的诗文用韵中有大量入声字与去声字相押的情况,这反映了明末内江方言中去声和入声之间的密切关系,内江方言入声归去可以追溯到明代末年。

    Abstract:The assimilation of entering tones into falling tones is one of the core characteristics of the Neijiang dialect, particularly in the Renfu sub-dialect which is a branch of Sichuan (Southwest) dialect. The poetry and prose by ZHAO Zhenji and Zhangxue (a Zen master) who are both Neijiang native literati in the late Ming Dynasty They frequently feature rhymes that include a significant number of zi(Chinese characters) with entering tones and falling tones. This reflects the close relationship between these tones in the Neijiang dialect during the late Ming dynasty. It can be concluded that the assimilation of entering tones into falling tones can be traced back to this historical context.
